Voices for Ohio’s Children recognizes Rep. Fedor
COLUMBUS- State Rep. Teresa Fedor (D- Toledo) was one of four award recipients honored today at the 2013 Legislative Champions for Children Awards. Rep. Fedor was recognized for her work in protecting Ohio’s children, most notably the sponsorship of the “Safe Harbor” bill (HB 262) last session which passed with overwhelming bipartisan support. HB 262 takes a victim-centered approach, requiring that all law enforcement be trained to recognize and deal with trafficking as a part of their peace officer training. The bill also increases penalties for trafficking.
“It’s incredibly important to support organizations like Voices for Ohio’s Children who advocate for the well-being of Ohio’s children and build nonpartisan collaborations among private, public and non-profit sectors. Voices for Ohio’s Children is truly a voice for Ohio’s most vulnerable.” said Rep. Fedor.
As a champion and voice for children across the state of Ohio, Rep. Fedor expects to introduce new legislation to address trafficking issues this session. Rep. Fedor has several additions in mind including harsher penalties for the solicitation of minors.
