Cincinnati festival introduces Tacopolis in the biggest celebration of Cinco de Mayo
CINCINNATI, Ohio (April 9, 2018) – The fifteenth annual Cincy-Cinco is set for May 4,5 & 6 on Fountain Square.
Cincy-Cinco, the tristate region’s premier Latino cultural fest, is a family-friendly event that showcases Latino culture, values and traditions.
“As in every other year, we want people of all ages and backgrounds to have the opportunity to enjoy and learn about the rich heritage of Latino music, dance and of course food” said Neil Comber, a founder of Cincy-Cinco.
This year will be a special occasion because it is the festival’s 15th anniversary. In Latin America “the Quinceanera” is considered a very special year for women. At Cincy- Cinco, it will be a weekend long celebration starting on the evening of Friday May 4 and going through Sunday evening. There will be mascot parades, pinatas and cake for all children.
Throughout the weekend, organizers will share the history of the Quinceanera and showcase a variety of activities for young women. For example, there will be various photo opportunities, demonstrations of makeup by representatives of Macy’s, and prizes for the best Quinceanera attire.
Another very special aspect to this year’s Cincy-Cinco will be the introduction of TACOPOLIS. Over the past 15 years, there has been a tremendous growth of authentic Latino, mainly Mexican, restaurants in the tristate area. Commensurate with that has been the widespread growth in acceptance and enjoyment of Latino food in the whole community. Chair Alfonso Cornejo commented: “With the launch of TACOPOLIS, we will have over a dozen authentic Latino restaurants featuring a wide array of authentic Latino dishes. Not only will there be traditional steak and chicken tacos, but in addition there will be special “street” tacos. This will not only be an annual feature of Cincy- Cinco, but also other TACOPOLIS events are being planned for the year”
Some of the other attractions include a children’s area where they can decorate flower pots for their mothers or make an item of jewelry. Mariachi Zelaya will stroll the square serenading families and there will be raffles for items like Macy’s gift cards, lunch or dinner courtesy of our fine authentic restaurants, and samples from some of our many sponsors.
Music from the region’s hottest Salsa bands, Tropicoso and Orquesta Kandela, will be featured throughout the weekend. And there will be traditional dancing from Mexico, Colombia, Panama, and a return of a dance troupe from Brazil.
Cincy-Cinco’s Founding partners; PNC bank, Kroger and P&G as well as other corporate sponsors, will be there to showcase and sample their products and services in fun interactive ways including hourly raffles varying from Zoo, Red’s tickets, Macy cash cards, P&G baskets of products all the way to a couple of sets of tires from Cooper tires.
The event is the largest Latino cultural celebration in the region. It runs 6-11pm on Friday, noon to 11pm on Saturday and noon to 6pm on Sunday. Over the last few years attendance has been between 9,000 and 11,000. As in every year since its inception, net proceeds will be used to support tristate health and education focused charities that support the Latino community. In the previous 14 years, proceeds from the Festival have exceeded $400,000 which have been distributed among organizations for their Latino programs.

El festival de Cincinnati presenta a Tacopolis en la celebración más grande del Cinco de Mayo

Esto no solo será una característica anual de Cincy-Cinco, sino que también se planean otros eventos de TACOPOLIS para el año “.
