CINCINNATI — Cincinnati Opera will kick off its 93rd Summer Festival on Sunday, June 9 with a free concert in downtown Cincinnati’s Washington Park, across from Music Hall. Opera in the Park will feature opera favorites performed by stars of the 2013 season, the Cincinnati Opera Chorus, and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. The concert will also inaugurate the Opera Campus, Cincinnati Opera’s latest initiative to bring opera beyond Music Hall and into the community.

Participating stars from the Cincinnati Opera stage will include sopranos Nicole Cabell and Alexandra Schoeny, mezzo-soprano Ruxandra Donose, tenors Aaron Blake and Marco Panuccio, and baritones Norman Garrett and Lucas Meachem. CSO Associate Conductor Robert Treviño will conduct and Evans Mirageas, The Harry T. Wilks Artistic Director of Cincinnati Opera, will serve as host.

Cabell will sing the role of Donna Elvira in the season-opening production of Don Giovanni. Schoeny will appear in all four operas this summer, including the roles of Zerlina in Don Giovanni and Maria Celeste in Galileo Galilei. Donose returns to sing the role of Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier. Blake will appear as Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni. Panuccio will sing the role of the Italian Tenor in Der Rosenkavalier. Norman Garrett returns after appearing previously as a young artist. And Meachem will make his company debut in the title role of Don Giovanni.

Members of the Cincinnati Opera Chorus will also be featured, led by chorus master Henri Venanzi.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy an evening of opera under the setting sun. Food trucks will offer patrons the opportunity to purchase items both before and after the performance. Prior to the concert, attendees are encouraged to visit Over-the-Rhine’s eclectic neighborhood festival Second Sunday on Main from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Main Street between 13th and Liberty.

In the event of rain, the performance will be held inside Music Hall. For updates, visit www.cincinnatiopera.org.
