Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra is thrilled to announce a weekend-long tour in Chicago, IL, culminating in its annual Memorial Day concert at Cincinnati’s Eden Park.
The CYSO, comprised of the best high school student musicians in the Greater Cincinnati region, will perform all 20 and 21 century repertoire in two Chicago venues. The tour acts as a celebration of the CSYO’s upcoming 2013-14 season, which marks the 50 season in its history.
The talented musicians of the CSYO, under the direction of conductor William White, will serve as ambassadors for Cincinnati as they embark on the Youth Orchestra’s first tour in over three decades. On Saturday, May 25 at 4 p.m. (CST), the CSYO will perform its first concert of the tour at the Nicholas Senn High School Auditorium on Chicago’s North Side. On Sunday, May 26, the Youth Orchestra performs its second concert at Adler Planetarium in Downtown Chicago.
Monday, May 27, the student musicians return home to perform the annual Memorial Day concert at Seasongood Pavilion in Eden Park. Both Chicago concerts as well as the concert in Eden Park are free and open to the public.
The students that make up the CSYO hail from all different backgrounds and schools and boast myriad talents, hobbies and interests aside from music. For instance, one CSYO cellist was a Junior Olympics finalist in fencing, a percussionist starred in several of his school’s plays and musicals, while others have taken up poetry or attained fluency in foreign languages.
