CSO makes Beethoven 9 concert available via live video feed

CINCINNATI— The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra announces today that its highly anticipated culmination of its “One City, One Symphony” initiative, the live performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony led by Music Director Designate Louis Langrée, will be available via live video feed to three public and several private locations throughout Greater Cincinnati. The live feed of the performance at 8 p.m. Saturday, November 17, made possible by CET and WGUC with support from The Greater Cincinnati Foundation, will allow fans who might not otherwise be able to attend the concert to enjoy the performance in their own communities. The concert will be presented in three publicly accessible locations, one each in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana: Newport on the Levee, Fountain Square and Batesville Memorial Public Library. Additionally, the telecast will be fed to the following private locations: Select Mercy Health locations, Hillspring Heathcare and Rehab, Shawneespring Healthcare Center, Villaspring of Erlanger, Mapleknoll Retirement Community, Brookwood Retirement Community, Cedar Village and Twin Towers Senior Living Community.

“This is a concert that needs to be shared,” said Mr. Langrée. “So at the end of the performance, we feel as if we want to hug our neighbors in brotherhood.”

“The goal behind this telecast is to allow people to experience this music together, even if they aren’t able to attend the concert,” said CSO Vice President of Communications Chris Pinelo. “There are several hospitals and retirement communities that will be receiving the live feed of the concert, but we also wanted there to be access to the concert in public spaces. Having the concert shown at community gathering centers such as Fountain Square, Newport-on-the-Levee and Batesville Memorial Public Library sums up the spirit of ‘One City, One Symphony’ by bringing people from all walks of life together with music,” he said.

The telecast is thanks to partnerships with CET and WCUC, and is being made possible by funding from The Greater Cincinnati Foundation, along with “One City, One Symphony” sponsors, The Jewish Foundation and the The Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation.

The concert program at Music Hall will be performed Thursday, November 15 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, November 17 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, November 18 at 2 p.m. The November 17 program is the only one that will be fed live to the remote locations.

Louis Langrée, Music Director Designate

Named Music Director of the world-renowned Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra starting in the 2013-14 season, Louis Langrée is an internationally acclaimed conductor with a dynamic presence on the podium. The French conductor is Music Director of the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center in New York, a position he has held since 2002, and Chief Conductor of the Camerata Salzburg.

Highlights of the 2012/13 season include Louis Langrée’s debuts with the Berliner Philharmoniker, Leipzig Gewandhaus and NHK Symphony in Tokyo, as well as re-

invitations to the Orchestre de Paris, Budapest Festival and Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestras. He will also continue his long term relationships with the Metropolitan Opera in New York (Dialogues des Carmélites) and with the Wiener Staatsoper (Don Giovanni and Le Nozze di Figaro).

Louis will conduct the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in two programmes this season. He will also conduct the Camerata Salzburg at the Mozarteum Hall in Salzburg and the Musikverein in Vienna.

Previous appearances with them have included Munich, Budapest, Aix-en-Provence and Paris.

Last season, Louis Langrée conducted three productions at the Wiener Staatsoper (Eugene Onegin, Le Nozze di Figaro, La Clemenza di Tito) and two at the Metropolitan Opera in New York (La Bohème and Don Giovanni). His many orchestral engagements included re-invitations to the symphony orchestras in Detroit, St Louis and Baltimore and also to the Deutsche Kammerphilhamonie and Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

Louis Langrée has conducted the Wiener Philharmoniker in concert in both Vienna and Salzburg. He has also worked with many other orchestras in North America, Europe and further afield, including London Philharmonic, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Santa Cecilia in Rome, Sao Paulo and Tokyo Philharmonic. He regularly conducts period instrument orchestras such as the Freiburger Barockorchester, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Le Concert d’Astrée. Festival appearances have included Wiener Festwochen, Salzburg Mozartwoche, BBC Proms, Glyndebourne Festival Opera and the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. He has held positions as Music Director of the Orchestre de Picardie (1993-98) and Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège (2001-06).

Louis Langrée was Music Director of Opéra National de Lyon (1998-2000) and Glyndebourne Touring Opera (1998-2003). He has also conducted at La Scala, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opéra- Bastille and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Dresden Staatsoper, Grand Théâtre in Geneva and the Netherlands Opera in Amsterdam.

Louis Langrée’s discography includes recordings for Virgin Classics, Universal and Naïve. Many of these have won awards including Diapason d’Or, Gramophone and Midem Classical. His most recent release is a DVD of La Traviata recorded at the Aix-en-Provence Festival with the London Symphony Orchestra for Virgin Classics, which has been awarded a Diapason D’Or. In 2006 he was appointed Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture.
