Dear community members and leaders,

As you may know, November is National Diabetes Awareness Month. In Ohio, there are over 889,381 people aged 18 or over who have been diagnosed with diabetes, including 13.2% of Ohio’s Hispanic population aged 18 and over. Unfortunately, these troubling statistics for Hispanic Ohioans surpass national figures for Hispanics, who continue to suffer disproportionately from this disease.

National Diabetes Awaraness Month is intended to raise awareness about the preventative and treatment measures for diabetes, and we would like to take this opportunity to share with you some resources offered by OCHLA and the State of Ohio.

For data and analysis on how diabetes affects Hispanic and all Ohioans, you can view our recent Latino Community Report on diabetes. In addition to impact analysis, the report concludes with a list of organizations around the state who provide quality prevention and treatment services. We encourage you to pass along this infiormation to your networks and anyone who may be in need of such services.

The Ohio Department of Health offers a valuable source of information and resources through its Diabetes Prevention and Control Program, including data, bilingual publications and information about the Ohio Diabetes Alliance, a group of health professionals and community leaders who meet regularly to continue the fight against diabetes.

In addition to sharing these resources, we ask that you send us any information about diabetes prevention/treatment efforts in your area so that we can help spread the word and connect people with the services and resources that they need. If you would like to share a resource with us, please reply directly to this email.

Thank you!

Best,

Jose Cos
