CINCINNATI — Every year, Cincinnati Opera presents a diverse series of informative and entertaining Opera Raps lectures in the months leading up to its summer performance season. These community programs are created to enlighten and engage opera devotees and newcomers alike, and feature an array of guest speakers leading conversations on topics related to Cincinnati Opera’s 2013 Summer Festival (June 13-July 28, 2013). Aida: A Grand Opera

Renowned musicologist and author Philip Gossett discusses Giuseppe Verdi’s epic 1871 masterpiece Aida. A world-renowned expert on the music of Verdi and Rossini, Gossett has taught at the University of Chicago since 1968.

“Ready for my close-up, Mr. Mozart!” Cincinnati Opera’s Hair and Make-up Designer James D. Geiergives an introduction to the techniques behind creating a theatrical look for the operatic stage. Join us for this unique opportunity to witness what it’s like to be in the make-up chair!

Cincinnati Opera’s 2013 Summer Festival will take place June 13 through July 28, featuring Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier, Philip Glass’s Galileo Galilei, and Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida.
