The purpose of the online, downloadable publication is to provide members of the public and civil rights advocates with contact information of government and non-government agencies and organizations dedicated to civil rights and social justice.

To receive a published printed copy of the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights 2013 Civil Rights Directory, send an email to kchr.mail@ky.gov with name and mailing address or request the free publication by calling the commission at 1.800.292.5566. The TDD telephone number for callers with hearing disabilities is 502.595.4084.

The directory lists diverse groups that work to further civil and human rights. It includes organizations that provide related assistance and information to people who need it. It lists Kentucky and national organizations. Category examples are: general civil rights organizations, African American civil rights organizations, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) chapters, disability organizations, faith-based organizations, housing organizations, human rights commissions, immigrant-help organizations, labor organizations and unions, legal resources, organizations assisting and advocating for people based on sexual orientation, women’s organizations, youth-help organizations, and civil and human rights education providers.

Introductory pages highlight the right to fair housing, and the publication was produced with the assistance of a grant by the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Fair housing advocates and stakeholders are encouraged to use the directory as an aid for contact information useful in their work.

The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights 2013 Civil Rights Directory is not an exhaustive list of civil rights organizations. People are invited to suggest an organization or agency for inclusion in any future edition by emailing the group’s name and contact information to the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights at kchr.mail@ky.gov
