Cincinnati Pops Orchestra presents world premiere commission of Waiting for Wings at Lollipops Family Concert – Orchestra partners with Cincinnati Museum Center, Krohn Conservatory for butterfly activities around town

of the season, the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra presents the world premiere commission entitled, Waiting for Wings. Based on Lois Ehlert’s timeless children’s book of the same name, the orchestral work will be performed with images from the book projected on the screen behind the orchestra. On Saturday, April 20 at 10:30 a.m., Pops Conductor John Morris Russell and the Orchestra musically bring to life a vibrant celebration of springtime. The Tony- award winning composer of the piece, Jason Robert Brown, is widely admired for his work as a Broadway and theatre composer, arranger and writer. Mr. Russell (who will lead this performance) taught Mr. Brown’s wife, Georgia Stitt (also an accomplished composer and musician and co-composer of the new work) when he held a position at Vanderbilt University, making this a collaboration between old friends. Mr. Brown and Ms. Stitt will be in Cincinnati and available for media interviews for this world premiere.

Tickets for this performance are still available and are just $7 for children and $12 for adults. Call the Pops Box Office at (513) 381-3300 or visit www.cincinnatipops.org for details or to purchase tickets.

In conjunction with this concert, the Orchestra is teaming up with the Cincinnati Museum Center and the Cincinnati Park Board in a celebration of butterflies in Cincinnati this spring and summer.

The Cincinnati Park Board is presenting its 18th annual Butterfly Show at the Krohn Conservatory while the Museum Center will be presenting the OMNIMAX film, Flight of the Butterflies.

All three organizations will be offering discounts with your tickets from the other organizations. Visitors will receive $1 off tickets at each location when bringing in a ticket from one of the other organizations.

The CSO is grateful to the George & Anne P. Heldman Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation for their tremendous support in honor of the Waiting for Wings commission.

The Lollipops Family Concert Series is sponsored by United Dairy Farmers and Homemade Brands. Additional series support provided by the Cincinnati Symphony Club.

The monarch butterfly is a true marvel of nature. Weighing less than a penny, it makes one of the longest migrations on Earth, with pinpoint navigational accuracy, to a secluded place it has never been. For the first time ever, witness the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly on our five-story dome screen and look inside a chrysalis.

Discover this amazing journey as you join hundreds of millions of real butterflies on an inspiring adventure and one scientist’s 40-year search to answer the question, where do the monarchs go each fall?
