Open Casting – Casting call set for supernumerary roles for CINCINNATI OPERA‘S 2016 SUMMER FESTIVAL

CINCINNATI–Cincinnati Opera announces an open casting call for supernumerary roles in the company’s 2016 Summer Festival. An information and casting session is scheduled for Monday, April 11 at 6:00 p.m. in the Oak Room at The Cincinnati Club at 30 Garfield Place in downtown Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Opera seeks applicants for the following roles:

Die Fledermaus
Commitment period: May 24-June 18
Performances: June 16 & 18

17 supers needed
  • 2 children
  • 15 adults to play international hotel guests of various ages, ethnicities, and genders.
  • The 2 children and 10 of the 15 adults are only needed for Act 1.
  • 5 of the adult male hotel guests will act as hotel waiters in Acts 2 and 3. The ability to move around the stage efficiently is essential for these roles.
Fidelio
Commitment period: June 13-July 9
Performances: July 7 & 9
60 supers needed
  • Make super-ing a family activity! Due to the large number of super roles in this production, Cincinnati Opera encourages family groups of children, parents, and/or grandparents to enjoy the experience together.
  • 10 men, roughly 20 to 40 years old, preferably with a military background.
  • Newly arriving male prisoners: 10 men. Must be comfortable being stripped down to underwear on stage.
  • Members of the press/TV crew: 3 men and 3 women. Final scene only.
  • 1 stunt super who is beaten on stage. Prior experience in stage combat is required.
  • 23 townspeople, preferably more women than men. 22 of these are in the final scene only.
  • 10 children, male or female, under 5 feet tall. Final scene only.
  • Supers who appear only in the final scene will have a reduced rehearsal time commitment.
Tosca
Commitment period: June 28-July 29
Performances: July 23, 27 & 29
18 supers needed
  • 4 children, male or female, under 5 feet tall.
  • 14 men, any age, to act as soldiers or clergymen.
  • The 4 children and 5 of the men will appear in Act 1 only.

Supernumerary or “super” roles are non-singing, non-speaking roles, much like extras in film and television. Supers will share the stage with internationally renowned artists and work with celebrated directors and conductors. Die FledermausFidelio, and Tosca will be presented in Procter & Gamble Hall at the Aronoff Center for the Arts, with a capacity of about 2,500 people per performance. Supers are required to attend approximately 10-15 rehearsals. Daytime rehearsals may be scheduled. No experience is necessary and all super positions are filled on a voluntary basis.

The season will open with Opera in the Park, a free community concert in Washington Park, on June 26.
