Cincinnati Opera and ROKCincy are pleased to announce the formation of a new strategic partnership to expand the reach of ROKCincy’s performances into schools and community centers in the Greater Cincinnati area and to enhance ROKCincy’s benefit to local artists.

ROKCincy (Roundabout Opera for Kids: Cincinnati) is a non-profit organization formed in 2012 with a mission to introduce young people to the thrill of live, fully staged opera, and to give developing professional musicians an opportunity to hone their performance skills through experience. ROKCincy provides free performances and accompanying curriculum guides to schools and community centers in the Greater Cincinnati area.

Throughout its 95-year history, Cincinnati Opera has welcomed producing partnerships with organizations including the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Ballet, University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, School for Creative and Performing Arts, Catacoustic Consort, Allen Temple A.M.E. Church, Rockdale Temple, and Christ Church Cathedral. In February 2015, Cincinnati Opera announced its first strategic partnership, with chamber music group concert:nova.

“ROKCincy is devoted to educating the next generation of opera lovers,” said Patricia K. Beggs, The Harry Fath General Director and CEO of Cincinnati Opera. “Every young person should be able to experience the magic of a live opera performance, and ROKCincy delivers a high-quality, engaging product.”

“One of the most admirable aspects of ROKCincy is the performers; they’re not paid for their time, but rather volunteer their talents to spread the love of opera, and they gain invaluable performance experience,” said Evans Mirageas, The Harry T. Wilks Artistic Director of Cincinnati Opera. “As part of this new strategic partnership, Cincinnati Opera will offer ROKCincy participants special mentoring sessions, such as master classes or meetings with Cincinnati Opera staff or artists.”

“This partnership offers valuable connections for ROKCincy and our highly motivated volunteer musicians,” said Kelly Holterhoff, Director of ROKCincy. “By utilizing Cincinnati Opera’s artistic leadership and community relationships, we can enhance the value of participation for the singers and broaden the reach of our program.”

Through the strategic partnership, Cincinnati Opera will provide ROKCincy with administrative support, rehearsal space, artist mentoring opportunities, and the opportunity to expand its reach into the community. Cincinnati Opera staff will also play an advisory role in certain administrative areas, while leaving all programming and casting decisions to ROKCincy.
